Is something eating my plant?

Hey everyone, this is my first post here so be nice to me please lol. I've had this plant for several years now and I've only just noticed there's a big chunk taken out of the base of this stem. It looks to be old though, should I be worried? What is likely to be the cause & is there anyway to rectify it?

Also if you could identify the type of plant too that'd be great, thanks! 😊

    Can't see any evidence of it being eaten. It seems to be in a very small pot inside that container.

    It looks like a dracaena which has had some cane damage. Possibly a knock or nick which has calloused over?

    I've taken your advice & went out yesterday to buy 4 new pots for my 4 plants 😊

    They'll look much better! are there drainage holes at the bottom of your containers?

    Thanks! Yeah there is. Got a terracotta drip tray under each one too 😊

    If the growth above the damaged part is healthy then it's nothing to worry about.
    If it breaks off at the weak point (eg if it gets another bump) you can stick the broken off branch in a pot of compost and it should root and form a new plant.
