Unknown bulbs

I have nurtured a cluster of white round potato like bulbs in a  pot of compost I found from past years they have now thrown up spikes which are about 6inches tall  has anyone an idea what they could be or would I be wise to put them on the bonfire like ?? Many thanks for any reply
