Picea Pungens insect. [Identified] Ladybird Larvae.
Hi all,
Not long ago, I planted a pot-grown Picea Pungens into the ground.
Recently I noticed what I though was some little tiny cones, but then they moved!
I did search and came up with Spruce Budworm, but I am not sure sure.
The orange cocoon thing is what they look like they come from, or maybe go into.
Would be good to know what these are, and importantly if they cause damage (looks like they are heading for this years new needles), and what to use to get rid of them.
Thanks

Yep, a quick image search for "ladybird larvae" and that's them.
In this case, they are utterly fine where they are, I guess. Ladybirds tend to get rid of pest (aphids etc.).
Thank goodness for the internet, forums like this and quick responses from you guys.
In earlier days, it may have got a dousing with malathion (which is now withdrawn in UK).
Always check first.
Happy days.
