Canna

Does anyone know if you chop up the rhizome of a canna will it come back. I thought I had moved my beautiful canna last year. I start the season turning compost through the soil, as I turned it over I realised clumps of the rhizome had also been chopped through a number of times. I’m devastated as I’ve had this a number of years.

Yes new ones will shoot, I let mine die back in winter in the greenhouse, re pot when you see new shoots. I don’t leave them in the soil over winter.

You could pot the bits up, give them a better chance of surviving,  plant out next year
