Just curious - again

Do outside seedlings grow more at night than during the day. Every morning they look bigger than the day before or have grown side shoots.
Did this happen during the night or when the sun came up?
In London. Keen but lazy.

    I don't know the scientific reason, but it seems when they are hot and bit dry they just go to sleep, come the cooler damper night they grow. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    Long years ago when I was doing my biology degree, I remember that photosynthesis involved a "light reaction" and a "dark reaction".  I can't remember the details.  But that might have something to do with it.

    Do people using artificial light propagators or growing illegal smoking material underground turn them off at night then?

    @B3 I think it’s dependent on the species whether they grow at night or during the day. 
    Plants respire all the time so theoretically they could grow at anytime.

    It seems there are many reasons and all of them are valid. The important thing is that they are growing😊  Thanks all
