How to make more geranium plants

CopperdogCopperdog Posts: 617
I have geranium blue blood plant and I’d like to make more plants - how should I do this? Should I divide them in autumn, wait for seed or try to take cuttings? Many thanks

They can be divided in autumn or spring but may self seed anyway.

you can cut the leaves back, dig them up and chop them into chunks, or sometimes you can pull them apart into new plants too.

    That’s what I’d do. 👍

If they are anything like the rest of the geranium family, just leave them alone and they will try to take over the garden!
I have the bog standard 'blue geranium' and the clumps get bigger and bigger,  until I have to split them and find another place to put some. I am running out of places, as I have lots of other geraniums too, some seed around,  others just spread incrementally. Some of the low growing ones have spread way beyond their original boundaries, but I don't care, because where they grow the ground elder doesn't get a look in, and you can't say that for many plants!

I split geraniums at any time too. They're very easy and forgiving   :)
They are indeed very useful for that @Buttercupdays. I have an inherited, peely wally biokovo one, but it's very useful down at the front gate where I don't really want to spend money  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
