Soil, Multi-purpose compost or Organic Compost

Can anyone advise me on what is best to use. I am sowing carrots, onions, easy salad leaves and magetout in homemade wooden planters & various pots. I have plenty of compost but if soil is better to use I would have to buy some.

    The veg you mention will gow just fine in multi-purpose compost.  You will need to start using a general liquid feed in about 6 weeks after planting though as the plant food which is included in the MPC will start to run out about then.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
