Runner Beans
In recent years my runner beans have failed to produce much blosson on the stems but tends to produce a lot on the overgrown tips, the parts I want to nip out. Any suggestions as to why this should be?

They've already grown new side shoots to replace the snapped top.
Only other thing I can think of is an adventurous slug or snail
