Greenhouse Shade

I have recently installed a 6' x 8' greenhouse which gets full sun from 9.00 - 4.00.  Can anybody tell me which is the best material for shading the midday sun.

Thanks

Some old net curtains if you have any would do

We use clothes pegs to pin up horticultural fleece.  Also works well and can be used to wrap up tender plants in winter.

Mine has got pretty printed voile attached with clothes pegs. (in other words old net curtains)
  • That sounds pretty - I never thought of net curtains.

    Thanks
  • Aahh yes I do have some fleece - good idea  :)

I paint the outside of the glasshouse with what is called Coolglass, whitens as it dries, stops the intense heat, and burning, only paint the roof and front where the sun goes round, works well and I find slowly gets washed off over the autumn/winter, admitting more light.

I do as cornelly does every year. Coolglass I paid 8 quid and had the same bottle for 4 years and I still ( just) have enough for next year.

Another vote for Coolglass - I put mine in an old spray bottle, much easier than trying to reach to paint
You can sweep it off with a soft brush in the autumn, on a dry day :)
  • Well coolglass seems very popular so I will check that out too. :D
