Yew Cone browning

Hi,

I have two yew cones which are browning. 6 others seem ok. They’ve all been planted for 2 years.

I considered it may be too much water so put them in large pots to see if that helps. 3 weeks later and they seem no better.

Also the browning is different on each effected cone.

Can anyone help? I’d love to save them!

Ideas much appreciated.

Yew should be perfectly happy in the ground...don't understand why would you damage the roots and put them in those fairly small pots instead. Easy enough to trim the dead bits but probably make sure they don't dry out and try to plant them in the ground again in the autumn.

  • Thanks, I’ll give that a try.

I put them in the pots as i read somewhere too much water can cause problems with yews. We’re in a clay area and the soil was saturated all winter.
