Blue bottle flies

Sabina13Sabina13 Posts: 113
Ive been plagued by the pesky things! Last year I don't recall having this problem and the only thing I'm doing different this year (in addition to being more organised and growing more  ) is I am adding a handful of chicken manure pellets in my planting holes at the base of all my veg.

They dont half stink! So is it really this stench thats bringing the flies in by the dozens? No one mentioned this little "side effect" of using chicken manure pellets.

Additionally what damage do these bluebottle flies do, they seem to just come en masse and sit on my veg leaves..

Hahaha pansyface you made me laugh! As long as they truly are only sitting and pondering where the job is  I'm relieved! They are such a nuisance when I'm out there though, always buzzing around my head.

I just read about a fly scarecrow on the news recently, not sure how well it works but would be a perfect place to experiment with.

What you do is hang a clear platic bag filled with water where the flies are and where sun will hit the bag, you add a few shiny pennies into the bag and when the sun hits the water and the coins the flies will disperse.

Would be interested to know if it works. It did seem to have good feedback
