Sad Laurels

We have planted a row of laurels along our garden wall, but two or three are looking like they are struggling.  Yellowing leaves and bare branches.  I have an abundance of rabbit poop which has rejuvenated 9a lime tree. Should I introduce them to bunny magic perhaps?

All newly planted shrubs need consistent watering for the first few years. In weather like this, make sure your shrubs get at least 2 buckets of water each in the early morning or late evenings.

Soil needs to be well prepared so the roots can grow into the soil easily. Feeding is not always priority for shrubs. It's more about getting the shrubs to settle into the soil. Yellowing leaves are normal for evergreen shrubs. Some leaves may drop for new leaves to grow.

However, if you have pale leaves or high numbers of yellow leaves, it may indicate stress like lack of water, or water-logging due to roots sitting in constant damp. This is common on soils that are compacted and not properly prepared.
