Planting before new soil and compost has settled

I have just got my new veg beds completed abd will have soild and compost next week. The advice I've read says not to sow / plant in the beds for 2 weeks to let the soil & compost settle. Given that this takes me to mid June, what do people think about me planting before 2 weeks are up? I am in southern Cumbria.

Just walking over it will compress it.
I dug out about 18" depth in my greenhouse border and re-filled with home compost. It was so light the roots wouldn't get hold, but just walking over it a couple of times soon firmed it up a bit, then watering settles it down more.
