A bees nest and a curious cat

Hello, I wonder if anyone can advise please, I have a bees nest in the ground in my garden, which the cat hasn’t yet discovered, how can I protect the nest entrance without disturbing the bees please? A fence won’t do, I was wondering about a chicken wire basket or similar placed over? Any advise would be most welcome, thankyou

If a cat gets stung once, it will learn to keep away.

Yes that’s very true! Best to try avoiding though

Bees use visual cues to remember where their nests are. You'll see them leave the nest, do a few quick circles to remember landmarks and then buzz off looking for food. If you change things during the day then you'll cause problems for returning bees so if you do change anything then do it over night. Chicken wire seems like a good idea. I won't lecture you about keeping your cat indoors instead for the sake of all the local wildlife and gardeners but it is something worth considering too. You can always put chicken wire around the cat rather than around the wildlife ;)
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Wild that’s very informative thankyou. Pansy that’s a good point, I’ve only ever had elderly rescue cats, so the mix of a young cat (she’s possibly 18 months old but we can’t be sure) and a bees nest is a mix I thought I’d best take advice on.
    Thankyou all for replies
