Complimenting Raspberry Canes

Yep me again ....

I'm really bombarding you all with questions today.

I planted these two raspberry canes as bare roots last November and in my limited experience they seem to be growing as expected.  Not expecting fruit this year, however there are little flowers appearing 🙂

There was a lot of weeds and grass growing between the canes, however I have partially cleared it.  My question is ... Is there a raspberry friendly way to keep the weeds away, and perhaps section their wee growth area to make it look pretty, such a decorative gravel, complimentary planting just something to make the area prettier and to section it off as the raspberry area.

(on reflection I wish I'd sectioned off the entire lawn border for planting but was dying to get these canes into the ground)

Thanks again 😊

Have you got some spare timber or something to make a frame and mark out the edges of a bed for them? In a couple of years the canes will start coming up everywhere, so you'll want to confine them to their  own area. You can just dig up any that aren't where you want them and move them to where you do. I under planted  mine with some alpine strawberries. They seem quite happy in the shade beneath the raspberries  and go great in a nice glass of Pimms :)
