Laburnum Tree Split

As you can see from the photos, the laburnum tree in the garden has a large split in the bark that appeared this week. We’ve lived in the house 12 yrs and there’s been no issue. Six weeks ago, I cut the ivy that was covering the trunk and climbing into the tree and cleared it from the trunk. IM wondering whether the ivy kept the bark moist and now it’s not there, it’s dried out and contracted?
