Trees/shrubs beside door
in Plants
Hi all,
unfortunately I’m onto my second round of Buxus trees either side of my front door. The last pair died of box blight and it looks like one of my new ones is going the same way.
id like some recommendations for what I could replace these with. I’m very, very not clued up on horticultural varieties so please excuse the description of what I’m looking for:
I really like a “standard tree” look, similar to the tall bay leaf trees. However these are expensive and I believe are favoured by those who like to liberate plants from peoples houses. The front door is east facing so does receive a lot of sunlight through the day. I’d like something for all year round. Also I’m not looking to spend an awful lot but appreciate that I might need to be open to budgets for the right kind of look I want.
any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Morrison had some Lavenders standards in last week. Off the top of my head, they were £20ish.
It's reasonably cheap to buy if you go for a smaller plant, and are patient enough to wait for it to grow. Ours are not bothered by any serious pests or diseases. If you want a more dramatic look, there is a nice, variegated variety called "Bravo". We have it as standards, and you are right, it was expensive, but I did some cuttings from it, and they are easy to do, although it would take a long time to train them as standards.
