This cactus has had no changes recently and suddenly is blackening with some big holes at the top, but is otherwise healthy. I rarely water so don’t believe that’s the issue. I saw a giant black beetle on it last week but removed and threw it away. I am worried it (or its friends) have burrowed into it and/or laid larvae.
I just tried pressure spraying with the hose but doubt it will save it. Please help!
What part of the world are you in? Do you keep it outside or was that just for the photos? How long have you had the plant and when was it last watered?
It looks like classic over-watering damage. That doesn't mean it was watered too frequently but it could have been watered at the wrong time or the soil stayed damp for too long.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
