  • Tips on designing, plant identification dealing with bare site, overgrown, how to sow and plant?

Just need a hint about what you're looking for. Fortunately there's a plethora of experience here.

  • AS a newbie I would suggest the simplest, but still satisfying, is simply scattering annual seeds directly over weeded ground to give colour this year. You may find combinatios that look good and/or flowers you love or hate.

That done, you can look up or ask us about things for particular places e.g. something 6' tall with red flowers in Spring for a sunny, dry spot.

Ok, i have just started too and here is what i started with. I bought a mini greenhouse with a clear tarpaulin cover, some seed trays, some compost and some seeds. Then i watched some YouTube videos on how to sow, water etc...I also bought some trays of seedlings and transplanted them into both, hanging baskets and large pots as it keeps the enthusiasm going when you can actually see something happening. Go for some basics to start with like, Petunias, Pansies, Geramiums, etc, tho there is an infinite world out there which i am just finding out myself.
    Hope this helps  :)

  • Thank you! I will definitely try some of those. I have just bought some seeds that I want to plant, as I want to try and grow some simple vegetables out my back garden.

What vegetable seeds have you purchased?

rhianna.coleman190820   Can I suggest you source a book called 'Food From Your Garden', published by Readers Digest as far back as 1977 but still available on sites like Amazon.  In time you'll want more info but it'll give you an excellent start, including things like preserving what you grow etc.
  • Thank you guys! I definitely will try that book out, as I dont know very much. I have bought some onion, cucumber and pepper seeds to grow

Hi @rhianna.coleman190820- I'm afraid it's a bit like 'how long is a piece of string?'  :)
It depends entirely what you wish to grow, and what part of the country you're in, and in what conditions.
Some things are straightforward, and many aren't.  ;)
Very few people grow onions from seed. Peppers need protection, and so do cucumbers - early on anyway.
If you have the packets, start a thread with  a few pix of the types you have, and you'll get specific advice for them. You could also use the search facility at the top of the page, and that will bring up previous threads and posts.
    Good luck!  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you! I was thinking it might be difficult to grow them
