Replacing buddleia with buddleia

When we moved there was a lovely, totally unpruned buddleia.  Took 4 years to get it into shape, but then was gorgeous for 4 more years.  Last year, when doing the big prune at the end of Feb, I noticed a large split in the lower trunk, filled with fungus/mould.  It hadn't flowered particularly well in 2018 but I thought that might have something to do with the drought.  So, up it came.  I replaced it with a white one, small but in flower.  This year, following its very careful pruning, it has grown beautifully; the only problem is, it is very lush in leaf but no buds at all.  Should I not have put it in the same place?  It's in light shade until around 1 p.m. and then in full sun.  Heavy clay soil but I keep mulching with compost and did lots of digging in of organic materials prior to planting.  Any ideas?  Should I move it, or what...?  It's too late for the tomato feed I think.

    It maybe that you're cosseting it too much  :) 
    Buddleia are pretty tough and the fact it's putting on lush growth makes me wonder if that's the case.
    Maybe someone else can advise.

    Actually, it just gets left there to do its own thing, getting water along with the rest of the border if it's needed and a general chat during the evening/morning check of the estate!  Which is exactly how I have treated other buddleias during our peripatetic life - and none of them 'sulked' like this one is doing.:|

    I have no signs of buds on any of mine yet.  I wouldn’t worry yet.

    There's always one ! I have a white flowered one that is later coming into flower than my dark purple one. Maybe they're slow to get going.

    Oh, so I'm not the only one.  I thought it had perhaps been listening to the poem "The World is Closed Today" (check it out) and had decided that it would continue to hibernate.  As it's obviously healthy, I shan't worry too much then.  Thanks, Forkers - as always, you rise to the challenge!  Stay safe, y'all!

    Mine is only just growing. Ages before they'll be buds. :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
