Freestanding hedge behind pergola

Hi! Following on from my previous design questions, I’m looking to build a pergola and to create privacy add a freestanding hedge. The hedge will be under the canopy of oak, and in shade a lot of the time but I am keen for this to be 3m, possibly more eventually. Portuguese laurel perhaps???
