Killing Ivy
...no, not the hit BBC drama starring Sandra Oh! This is something far more scary -- the dreaded ivy!
My wife and I have just spent the bulk of the afternoon hacking back a large infestation of ivy, which had embedded itself into our front garden wall and was running amok amongst the surrounding shrubs and holly tree. After much hacking and chopping we have finally removed it all down to a couple of thick stumps, just above ground level, which are about an inch in diameter.
My question is: can we treat the chopped, exposed surface of the stump with anything to kill off the root. My obvious worry is that the thing will grow back and we will be repeating the same somewhat arduous exercise in a year's time.
Any advice would be gratefully received!
