Small pond

Thinking about making a pond underneath this arch and growing beans and sweet peas over it. Is that possible or is this a stupid idea. I'm totally new to this so any help gratefully accepted!!

A pond under an arch will make access difficult for tending the plants on the arch.

No - wrong idea for a pond. Stick with the peas etc  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

small ponds don't really work for lots of reasons , water feature , but not under the arch .

I have 3 tiny half barrel ponds, 2 in my garden one at the allotment and they are a delight, I would definitely recommend them. Maybe not in this situation but elsewhere, the only issue may be child safety?

Small ponds are great.  As you don't have a lot of space, an above ground pond (basically a big pot or trough, or perhaps several) would be easier than digging a hole.  It would also give you the option to move it around, so that it gets the right amount of sun.  You'll be surprised at how quickly Damselfly will populate even the tiniest of ponds.

we dug a small hole (about 2 foot by 18 inches) lined with some scraps of pond liner and filled with rain water. added a few oxygenators and before we knew it there were frogs, newts and dragonflies!!  A bit smelly after a couple of years but easy to look after and when cleaned out the birds love to bath there.  Can't beat it :)
