Daphne with curling leaves

Hi all,

I bought a small Daphne odora (Perfume Princess) earlier this year and put it in a pot until I decide where to plant it. Shortly after, I noticed that new leaves looked a bit pinched. Now I see that the new leaves are completely twisted while older leaves look fine.

I unfolded one and didn't see any insects  - but there flecks on some leaves - so I'm not sure what to do with it. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I purchased a daphne perfume princess recently, leaves are puckered, I am thinking aphids, any suggestions, bought online from a well respected gardening magazine with an offer

The curls leaves seen in my photos unfurled. My plant also had - and still has - some of the puckering your describe. I haven't found any good explanations for what's causing it
  • Your original issue looks identical to bay sucker caused by aphids...I would worry about any leaf deformities as they can be affected by a virus. A bit more info on the RHS website https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=188

  • If you are a member of the RHS you can get expert advice on your problem - I emailed photos and information when I thought we might have honey fungus (we do...) and had some specific questions.  I got a very comprehensive answer from their plant pathologist.  :)

With a few exceptions we're not experts on this forum, though if you're lucky you'll get an answer from someone who's seen the problem before.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Yes I know about RHS advice and have a query for another plant recently given to them.  I think they prefer a few rather than a lot of questions due to staff shortages.
