Is this a wasp nest?

Hello, I found this attached to the inside lid of our compost box, it is about 5cm across, is it a wasps’ nest?
it was empty... should I remove it? Not in the most convenient spot!

    A wasp's nest from last year. There is no point in leaving it there, it will not be re-used.

    Fire yes! I was going to keep it as a curious object if I can get it off in one piece, it looks fragile...

    They're really beautiful @elspethscott. I removed a small one when my girls were young. They were fascinated by it  :)
    They are quite fragile, but if you have a sharp knife, you might be lucky if you can slide it down the back.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Yes, that’s a good idea. I have two little boys that are very interested in it, it is amazing 😀

    You could try gently spraying it with hair lacquer and waiting for it to dry which may give you a better chance of removing it intact if it is already crumbling.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    I used to enjoy watching them harvest the wood from the fence  :)

    Hope the boys enjoy it. It can really help youngsters understand how things 'work' too. They're fascinating little structures. The nests - not your boys...... ;)

    I got it, and it’s intact!

    Used a sharp knife, will definitely spray it though before I let the boys have a look 😁, top tip.
