Something tall needed

Ideas please for something tall along my 6 ft fence. I don’t want a full hedge as I do not mind seeing the fence but we are overlooked by our neighbours.
Tall shrubs or small trees ideas non-invasive roots,  will be in full sun. Bench and existing planter will go.

Hello Caroline, how big is your garden please? Do you need tall and thin or bushes that grow outwards. Are the plants to be in containers or planted in the ground? More information would greatly help!

This is a common query and there's a couple of problems every time.
Assuming your fence is around 2 metres, you'd need something around double that. If you buy something that height, you need the skill to establish and maintain it, and the funds to buy it.
If you buy something smaller, you'll have to wait for a considerable time for it to reach that height. Anything 'quick growing' won't just stop, and will therefore need constant maintenance to keep it from getting out of hand.
Anything sizeable will also cast shade, so you need to bear that in mind as well.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

What about adding a trellis across the top? As a novice what could I grow and not kill off easily that I could train along it.
I have actually managed to kill ivy in the past. 😳

You could do that @Caroline-19, and plant climbers, but you need to prep the ground well and put supports in for them.
It doesn't bode well if you've managed to see off ivy though  :D
It still won't completely block the windows though, because again - it would need to be a considerable height, and there are regulations about fence heights. The best way of screening is to have something slightly further forward [nearer your house]  because the perspective means you don't need anything so big.
It depends on the length of the plot too.
Another alternative is to make the garden interesting by having attractive planting at various points, with perhaps a smaller specimen tree or large shrub, which detracts from the view.  :)

Thank you for your ideas. It’s quite a large garden so enough to play with. 👍🏻
