Solanum Crispum flowering

Hello, I have a vigorous solanum in my garden which flowers beautifully in April-May every year. The flowers start to die off end of May-beginning of June. I’m wondering if there is anything I can do to extend this or encourage re-flowering into summer? I’m a novice and haven’t been able to find any info about this so I’m looking for advice please!

hi and welcome to the forum.
Not much is the answer. A bit like trying to make tulips flower in mid summer I'm afraid.
Plants flower when it suits them, not when it suits us ( unfortunately )

  • Thank you for the welcome. This one certainly does flower when it likes as everything I read suggests that they flower a bit later on and for months...so thought perhaps there was something I needed to do that I don’t know about!

How long it flowers can depend on your aspect and soil type. They suffer on heavier soils, so make sure it's free draining and but does not get dry at the base. If they can get their roots deep into the soil and it's protected and not too exposed, the shrub will re-flower again in mid to late summer. Also, it grows quite fast during the summer, if you pruned some of the branches back, they will sometimes re-grow so quickly they re-flower again.
