clematis newbie!
hello, i am new to this website but have visited the pages alot in the last few months for gardening ideas, so thanks everyone for the inspiration!
i have recently had my garden landscaped and have been planning what to plant in the borders. i am completely new to this gardening business so was hoping to get some help.
i have an east facing fence between my house and the neighbours. it abuts our decking directly, meaning i have no flower bed at the base of this fence. i am however desperate to plant something pretty and 'climbing' for this fence so have bought 2 x clematis arabella and 1 x clematis ruby wedding.
the fence gets alot of sun until about 2 pm when it becomes shaded. it is a quite sheltered frm the wind too.
i have bought 2 x big clay pots from the garden centre which are about 40-42 cm i believe. and ive also bought 2 x trellis which is a fan shape.
my plan is to pot the arabella and the ruby wedding next against the fence, in pots on my decking, and possibly the other clematis on the west facing fence which gets full sun, in the ground.
will i be ok to plant the 'fence' clems in the 2 pots i have bought, and then if i drill the trellis onto the fence , will they climb up automatically? or do i need to install vine eyes/twine etc? more than happy to purchase the latter but ive done quite alot of reading online and getting conflicting info on what to do with a potted clem!
thank you so much in advance

The pot size could be bigger, but would do for now. Otherwise the positioning would be about right I'd say
