Identifying this Cotoneaster...

robin 435robin 435 Posts: 54
Hello
About 3 years ago I found a small seedling growing in the garden, presumably dropped by a bird, and now I have a nice little Cotoneaster. Could someone please identify which variety of Cotoneaster this might be, which will help me decide on a final position for her in the garden? It has an upright trunk under the foliage, Thanks Robin

There's so many @robin 435 - I certainly couldn't ID it from that, but someone else might be able to like @Silver surfer  :)
If you have a nice wee spot for it, you can move it - they're quite robust, so it should be fine. You can also prune and shape them anyway  :)

It might be dammeri, but they tend to be flatter - more ground covering, if you know what I mean.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    I think it's C. horizontalis
    East Anglia
  • I really am not a fan of these - but the bees like them :)

Thanks for your replies, from looking at photos I thought it might be a type of horizontalis. Would a good spot for this be in the centre or back of a border? I love unexpected gifts from the birds

They grow quite happily in most sites, but a sunny one is usually preferable. I have them everywhere - under conifers, beside other shrubs etc.
Probably best nearer the front of a border if you can manage, but they generally aren't too fussy.
