we are in a garden and have come across this.  Can anyone identify?

    What did the rest of the plant look like?
    Why did you pick a flower in someone elses garden?
    It might be something very special/precious .

    We are gardeners and it seems to have self seeded around one of the gardens we haven’t been to for a long while.  There is a lot of it.  We picked one head to put on here for help!

    Thought it might have been a solitary plant that you had picked.
    That puts a very different slant  to it.

    One of the fritillarias? It looks a bit like imperialis with the tufty leaves at the top, but not quite.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
