I can only say it looks extremely like my GJ's.
GJ is well known for its wonderful scent

If it isn't then any idea what it could be? I cant keep going past neighbour's house to smell it  ;)
I need to get one for myself!

  • oh wow, my GJ is now 3 years old and looks nothing like that (mine is still tiny!).  Would this be the climber version of GJ or does the shrub version grow this big too?

The shrub version and climber version is the same rose, there is no difference. This is how it should look when happy and mature (and unpruned probably). Don't feel bad, @cats_and_dogs my 4+ years Gertrude also doesn't look like that or nowhere near that.
  • @edhelka good to hear I'm not the only one whose GJ is taking it's time to get going! Let's hope ours start looking as good as the rose in these photos soon!
On David Austin's website it has two versions of GJ for sale, one listed as a shrub growing to 3x4 and the climber version height showing as 8ft, so I don't think it can be the same rose?

@cats_and_dogs It is. As many DA roses, it can be grown in both ways and the final size depends on the support and pruning. Many roses are smaller when self-supporting.
