Infested Lupinus!

Good morning everyone,
This morning I found that newly planted dwarf Lupinus stem appeared to be discoloured and I fear the stem was rotting. However on closer inspection I realised it had been infested with hundreds, if not thousands, of greenfly and other unwanted pests... I immediately saturated the plant with pesticide using a rose spray and scraped  off as many insects as possible... Not sure why this plant had been victim to the pests and not sure what I could of done to prevented this and what I should do moving forward... Any suggestions for experienced gardeners would be greatly appreciated.

There's a particular type of aphid (nasty big fat grey ones) that only infests lupins. I inspect mine daily and brush the little monsters off.

The one reason I don't grow lupins, they are earwig magnets! 😬

You just need to hose them off, or wipe them.

I’ve never had an earwig on a lupin, plenty on dahlias, but not lupins.

The damage to that plant is from the pesticide @Jlpknight87

I only sprayed it a minute before taking that photo...

Then it's probably because it's been soaked while in the sun.
Always do that in cloudy weather.   :)
