A strong vanilla - ish smell

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
There's a strong smell ,sort of vanilla, coming through the the window.  There's nothing like that in my garden apart from loads of roses and hardy geraniums and the elderberry is in full bloom, none of which smell like that. I can't see a likely suspect in neighbours' gardens but there's a lot I can't see. What could it be? I want one!

Hello B3 could it be a jasmine growing nearby? mine is flowering and it smells divine, particularly in this warm air it carries in through the windows.

I passed a Wisteria yesterday and was surprised at how strong its fragrance was. Any of those around?

No I have jasmine but it doesn't smell like that. Although mine is the bog standard one - not flowering yet. Is there one with a vanilla smell? Come to think of it, the smell has that kind of strength - a bit like the non hardy ones you get in florists. @Chivetalking. You may well have something there.

Nemesia maybe? But they would need to have a lot of them.

No wisteria @WillDB. I think I'd be able to spot them over the fences
