New wildlife pond next steps

We are creating a wildlife pond for our small care home .its been dug out and liner is in.  We are learning as we go . This week the plan is to trench in the liner and order plants. Should
we put gravel on the bottom Even though water is already in . And should we add anything to the water before we start planting .

    Looks good.

Gravel or any kid of substrate is a personal choice. I prefer to look at gravel or cobbles than liner.

Some people add dechlorinater if you've filled from the tap, but it's generally not needed unless your adding fish within 24 hours of filling.

Obviously a good selection of plants is vital for a healthy pond (oxygenaters, marginals, floaters etc) but everything else after that is decor.

  • Thankyou . How many plants should we add at a time .in process of making a wish list to get started

As many as you can afford. The more plants you can get in, the less algae you'll have, the more clear the water will be.

Puddleplants is quite popular but there's a delay on delivery at the moment. They do planting bundles which will give you an idea on the amount.
