Climbing Rose Compassion

we have discovered that a huge amount of the buds on the beautiful climber are deformed!
cannot find out what is wrong,apart from thrips.  Do I need to hard prune it now to get rid of problem so not to affect other Roses in the garden?

    @Brianandlindagreen Welcome to the forum. Sorry you haven't had a response to your query but I think everyone has taken to gardening now in lockdown, so far more posts than usual I would say. It just needs the right person to be around when you post to be able to answer your query otherwise it can get lost. Hope this time someone will pick up on it.  :)

    I wonder if this could be frost damage?
    Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
