Rockery or something else, ideas needed

Hello all, I am relatively new to gardening and I recently moved to a new house where the garden requires a lot of maintenance. I don't mind the maintenance but I have 2 kids so it needs to be less "bushy". I have an area where there are two lovely trees growing and when they bloom they are fantastic to look at, however I don't know what to do with the surrounding area. I have tried placing white stones but not sure about it.

Anybody have a similar setup or ideas what can be done with it? Ideally I don't want to chop the trees down.

Any suggestions are welcome. I am a novice in this area :)

Thanks in advance.

Not sure because the photos are a bit small, but your 2 trees look like they are Magnolia stellata and a Camellia. The 2 shrubs on the rockery look like Azaleas. With the white gravel the whole area looks rather like a Japanese garden and with the addition of an artfully placed rock and maybe a Japanese lantern you could get away with calling it one. The essence of Japanese gardens is simplicity, so you wouldn't need to do much more :)
Have a look online for Japanese gardens and see what you think. If you like the idea you will find other suggestions of ways to develop it further.

Ah lovely OK that gives a direction at least. I had no idea what to do. I have another pic (not sure if it helps).

I need to paint the fences :)

If that were my garden, I'd want to cover those fences with climbing plants and/or train fruit trees against them.

I like the minimal clean look :) needs to feel open and simple.
