Hi All, I wondered if you could help with the following. I have a Christmas Cactus which is about 5 years old and some of the leaves seem to be drying out/getting crispy. Is there anything I can do? Thank you.
Hello Susan! Well, my first question is when was it last repotted? Because if the roots are bound then it may not be getting enough moisture retention via the tired soil. Also the weather is very warm right now, so where is it positioned do you mind me asking, as they actually enjoy a very humid condition, perhaps a mist would help it? Something around 12-15C is ideal..with indirect light. Let me know how you get on (If it has not been repotted for 2 years then i would certainly suggest it!)
Hi Rebecca, just checked and there looks like there are roots coming out the bottom of the pot. The plant is on the kitchen window sill, which only gets sun first thing in the morning. I wondered if I should give it some feed? If so what sort?
Hello! Well if the roots are coming out the bottom I do think that it needs re-potting then for sure as it's outgrowing it's current situation. For compost an easy draining indoor plant potting mix will suffice. Feed wise I think that you will be safe with a simple indoor plant feed liquid, they are available online and normally contain seaweed extra. Do follow the instructions for the diluting! Meanwhile it might benefit right away from indirect light all day and daily misting as I think they like it humid - anything too arid will crisp them up I'm afraid!
