Wonderful news about him getting a knighthood.  So much more deserving than retiring Civil Servants / Politicians and so many 'celebs' over the years.

Forgotten in all this is that much maligned of phenomena, social media. Without it the wonderful Tom would probably only have raised £390 not £39,000,000 and none of us would have heard of him.

I agree.  For once social media has had a positive effect.  Neither he nor his family expected what happened, which makes it all the better.

Have to say "honours" are such a meaningless gesture to me. But credit to him for riding the wave of publicity with such elan. Fingers crossed the money will be spent wisely.

For the most part I would agree, especially when you get situations like the England cricket team all get 'gongs' for beating the Aussies for the first time in about 300 years and then promptly get stuffed the next time they met.  They should have been made to hand them back.
