Can anyone identify this plant on the right next to the hollyhock? It was in the garden when we moved in.

    Euphorbia lathyris....common name caper spurge.
    Be careful the white latex sap is toxic.
    It can look splendid...National Trust Scotland chose to leave this fine specimen

    All euphorbias have the white latex like sap. It’s not really a problem unless you get it on your skin, so wear long sleeves and gloves if pulling it out etc. and of course don’t rub your eyes. 

    I got it on my legs when I was a child and decided to pull some out of a border for some reason (I think I was about 7 🙄) and my legs were very sore and a bit swollen for a couple of days.  Sixty years later I still remember it ... but it’s not stoped me from growing them 😍

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
