Hydrangea growing on a single stem

Hello all,
I have a hydrangea which is doing well but the problem is the entire plant has developed from a single stem (zoom in on the attached photo).
Fortunately it is able to balance against a dead, but sturdy, hydrangea root situated directly beside it but I’m concerned that may not be enough as the plant continues to grow.
I’m assuming the safest option is to take cuttings and grow new plants but any advice you have is appreciated.
All my very best
Mike

@Mike176 I have a few hydrangeas and am no expert by any means but I have never seen one grow like that before. Maybe I am missing out somewhere. Is it growing from the one you consider to be dead? There are one or two people on the forum who know a lot about hydrangeas but unfortunately I can't remember names. Hopefully they will be there to pick up on this and give you some answers.  :)

Dear Fran, thanks for getting in touch.
Believe it or not but it came from a simple cutting which I placed into the ground about 4 yrs ago!
It’s not growing from the larger, dead, root but the thin stem to the left of the dead root.
I’ll have a look for those Hydrangea experts you mention!
Thanks again Fran and enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend

Hi Mike, You did have to wait a long time for your cutting to take! Don't think I would have had the patience!
A name that comes to mind is @Fairygirl and she may be able to help you if she doesn't mind me mentioning her name. If she is not the one I feel she may know the poster who does have large bushes of hydrangeas which put mine to shame.
If you search under hydrangea there are a lot of posts which if you have the time you could have a look at.
Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend as well although all days seem the same at the moment.  :)
