    August is certainly the right time to do the second clipping of beech,  in order for the maximum amount of cover to be retained over winter. 

    Did you do the second clipping in August last year?

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Always July and August, I have a lot of hedge.  But don't think that is relevant to spider mite.  Brown leaf cover is usually good except where the mite has been.

    THis year seems (fingers crossed) to be OK.  But I want to be ready for next year.
