I planted 1 in 1986 between a railway sleeper that supports a bank of the remains of a moat and the bank and it has grown in size but not spread.

Lysichiton camtschatcensis...common name Skunk cabbage.
Ours were also slow.
Has it flowered?
I believe they spread by seed rather than bulking up.
It loves to sit with its roots in water.
