white soil mites

There are tiny white mites crawling about in a potted plant indoors, and according to google these are soil mites. It said they're not harmful to the plant but they can pass diseases onto people. I only found one site that mentioned that so I'm doubting the truth of it.

Should I bin the plant to get rid of these mites?

It can help to water indoor plants from underneath to keep the soil surface dry which deters a lot of pests. You can also remove the top layer of soil and add fresh stuff. A top-dress of decorative gravel also helps keeps pests away as well as looking nicer than bare soil.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
