Can i grow wild flowers alongside lavender seedlings?

I've just planted a row of lavender plug plants, each about 5cm in height. Can I cast some bee flower seeds amongst the seedlings, with the aim of cutting them back next season when the lavender has grown? I've found the bee flowers I've sown elsewhere to be, besides beautiful, quite perennial. But once I've got my lavender border going I wasn't planning to mix it up with other flowers; I'm open-minded though.

My comment would be, it's entirely up to you  :) !
My personal take would be that l would leave the lavenders alone to establish,  but l can't see any harm in doing as you suggest.

I would be careful with that as some of the seed mixes contain some thugs. Ive just been hacking my way through 4 ft of oriental poppies from those seed mixes.

Lavender really likes light, until they have grown considerably I think growing seeds around them would not be helpful.
  • gabrielkemlo For me the bees need help asap, so a little bee wildflower mix would be ok :) - You may need to mulch  / hoe heavily in future around the lavender bushes if you want to surpress the other self sown plants in coming years. Are there large gaps or small gaps? A picture would be great!
  • Yes, I want the bee flowers at the earliest available; I've been thrilled by the ones I planted in earlier years. On the lavender, I've just removed some paving stones the previous owners left covering the front garden, and dug down around 10 inches, which I've filled with sandy topsoil; below that is London clay. Do you think I'll get the lavender to grow in such conditions? The bee flowers presumably yes. I'll post a picture asap.

I would have incorporated some grit to help with drainage. If you can, it may be possible to add some by gently forking it in  around the plants. There's some more information here that may help  :)
