Ok to prune this rosebush back now?

GraysGrays Posts: 172
Hi all,
Been trying to tidy up an area at the front of the house, and there is a rather large rosebush that is taking over and covering some smaller rosebushes to the side of it.
Can anyone identify the type, and is it ok to cut this back now? or is it the wrong time?
Also and this might sound silly..... would it be ok to cut it back with hedge trimmers, or would you take your time and prune it properly with secateurs?

Thank you.

  • if if it was me, then maybe I would wait until it has flowered then give it a light trim but not a proper prune. Then prune it properly in the winter. Does it flower once or keep repeating??

plus if their are other roses their maybe try clear some space around them too as they will struggle.

... your rose is developing flower buds that will give you blooms shortly... cut it back mid summer, I would estimate mid July time if you can wait, and if you don't want autumn hips to develop... yes you can use hedge shears on that type of rose..
I'm not sure which one it is, wait until it flowers...
