Robinia - bubbles appearing in branches

Can anyone help identify what these bubbles are and if / how they should be dealt with. The trees five years old and has been healthy. The bubbles ooze a sap like liquid - is this honey fungus?

    That’s an infestation of one of the many kinds of scale insect.

    apparently neat gin on and a cotton bud will deal with them, but it seems such a waste 🍸 🍸 🍸

    Thanks again Dove - I have a feeling that if I started using the wife's gin like this, I'd soon be seeking advice from a different kind of forum

    You can use meths, but it can be tricky to get hold of. 

    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
