Lupin

Hi I have this lupin and I have read that you should cut the flower stalks to help promote a second bloom but I was wondering on when I should cut the flower stalks for this to happen?

Once a flower stalk starts to look a bit tatty is when I do it.

More, smaller flowers will sporadically appear. Have had them going right into September.

I'm no expert here but it looks as though the three big ones are on their way out and the little pod thingies will start to fall off.  I'd chop them off first, then the two to the right of the picture once they have got taller.  It will let the little ones come through.
    Lovely plant by the way!

Definitely cut those three tall ones at the back off at the base, the seeds are already  forming.

Haven't seen an established one in a pot before either, certainly seems happy.
  • Thanks all! I’ve cut the tall stalks after the advice and stuck them in a vase, see how they go.
