Gravel trays help please!

Stupid newbie question! I was given some rather large gravel trays yesterday to use in my greenhouse and thought as all my seedlings are in their own biodegradable mini pots I could put them all in one and use to water all at once. Tried this morning and had a lot of standing water left around in them. What's the best way to use them please? I don't want to have to fill and remove every time I water as there's a lot of plants in there and it's more time consuming than how I was previously watering them from the top.

Also, I have my bigger pots in trays too to help with watering from the bottom but will it do more harm than good them being sat in water?

Put less water in the trays. You can always add a bit more several hours later.

Secondly, make some holes in the biodegradable pots. I know they are not water proof, but it is going to take somewhat longer for the water to permeate through.

I did just that with the bio pots this morning as wondered about water getting in and draining out, thank you

I use gravel trays under the glasshouse tomatoes grown in ten inch pots, its good drainage.
