Container screening

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help with some suggestions for screening plant in planters. I Live in London and the garden is south facing, east wall. I had put in bamboo plants about four years ago. While they gave instant inexpensive screening, I find that they dry out extremely quickly and also shed a lot of leaves as a result. I also find that the yellow colour doesn't match with the green of the other plants. Would conifers fare better? Many thanks for any suggestions

Anything in containers needs to be watered regularly as containers dry out quickly. The problem will be even worse with conifers as they require a lot of water when young.
