Is this peony wilt? Or something else...

Hello, looking for advice please. This is one of 5 peonies in a bed but it looks really unhappy - I’m not sure what’s wrong with it or what to do. Could it be peony wilt? All the others look great!

It looks very dry. Have you tried giving it a bucket of water and see if it perks up overnight.

When the soil is that dry the water often just runs off. It's important to make sure the water you put on sinks in well. Is it a very young or new peony?
  • It was a bare root this winter, as were the others in the bed - they’ve all had the same amount of water and the others look great! I’ve dug around it this afternoon and given it a good water to try and help avoid run off - we have awful clay soil with a lot of rubble in it, it’s possible that it’s in a particularly bad patch. Thanks for the advice - if it’s only a water issue that’s a great outcome as I should be able to fix it. I was terrified it was peony wilt and I’d lose the lot!
